History in Our Hands is a student-led, student-oriented nonprofit that partners with local youth organizations to make history education accessible, engaging, and relevant to underserved students.
Who do you serve?
We serve underserved youth through partnerships with Boys and Girls Clubs and other community programs, giving students opportunities to engage with history and compete in National History Day.
Where do your workshops take place?
Our student leaders travel directly to the community! We host sessions in school classrooms, local libraries, civic centers, and community spaces.
How do you help students?
Our volunteers work directly with students to introduce them to National History Day, help them develop their historical projects, coach them through the competition process, and mentor them to become confident young historians.
How much do your programs cost?
As a student-led organization dedicated to history education and democratization, we offer completely free programs!
What is National History Day?
National History Day is an annual competition where students research historical topics and present their findings through exhibits, documentaries, performances, or websites.
Do I have to compete to participate?
While National History Day competition is our primary focus, our real goal is to make history engaging and relevant—whether students compete or simply develop a deeper love for learning history.
